As we continue our alumni series, “Where Are They Now,” travel in time with us as we follow our graduates on their journeys and discover how An Achievable Dream made a positive impact on their lives. Also featured in this series are each graduating class’s sponsor to share their inspiration for supporting their class and a reflection from AAD president and CEO, Dr. Lee Vreeland, on each alumni. In this feature, we are highlighting Class of 2012 graduate, La’Brea Bryant.
Tell us where you are, what you’re doing now, and the accomplishment or life milestones you’re most proud of!
My name is La’Brea Bryant, from the graduating class of 2012, and I am currently working in department E85 as a Radiological Controls Technician at Newport News Shipbuilding. The most proud moments in my life came after I had my children. Being able to mold two very handsome, intelligent, and promising young men has been nothing short of a blessing.
What about An Achievable Dream do you feel most prepared you for the career and life you have now?
An Achievable Dream prepared me to be who I am today at a very young age. From our initial Etiquette classes to learning how to write a check, these principles never left my mind. My foundation at An Achievable Dream prepared me to remain focused and dedicated to perfecting my craft at work, and never settling. I’m always looking to improve myself and learn something new every day. As long as I am being good to others and being the best “me” I can be, my heart will remain satisfied.
What is next for you?
In my future, I plan to take my radiological certifications and continue to build the best naval nuclear power vessels in the world. I want to pass down my successes to my 7-year-old Lathan, and our newest addition, 2-year-old Damarié.
Now, you will read a reflection from our President and CEO, Dr. Lee Vreeland on La’Brea’s journey.
La’Brea has an old soul with a giant heart. She loves with her whole heart and unconditionally. La’Brea has without a doubt come into her own, balancing a career and two amazing little boys. I am proud to say she is a Dreamer and always will be!
– Lee Vreeland, Ed.D., President/CEO, An Achievable Dream
Continue reading to learn about why the graduating class sponsor from 2012, Mary Hughes, chose to invest in the Dream.
I chose to sponsor An Achievable Dream classes because when I first met An Achievable Dream students I knew that these were students that would exceed all expectations when given the opportunity. Every student that I have met at An Achievable Dream has been amazing, focused, and positive. I don’t feel like I gave them a push, I feel that they gave me a pull.
