As we continue our alumni series, “Where Are They Now,” travel in time with us as we follow our graduates on their journeys and discover how An Achievable Dream made a positive impact on their lives. Also featured in this series are each graduating class’s sponsor to share their inspiration for supporting their class and a reflection from AAD president and CEO, Dr. Lee Vreeland, on each alumni. In this feature, we are highlighting Class of 2009 graduate, Asia Lane.
Tell us where you are, what you’re doing now, and the accomplishment or life milestones you’re most proud of!
Currently, I am an administrative assistant in the Community Development department for the City of Hampton. Before the pandemic, I was a Promotions Assistant at iHeart Media in Norfolk. Today’s circumstances and life changes have urged me to become involved in homeownership and financial freedom, so I decided to study real estate and re-launch my retail business, LANELUXX LLC.
What about An Achievable Dream do you feel most prepared you for the career and life you have now?
An Achievable Dream always taught me to believe in myself and reminded me that I am someone special. Those words stayed with me along my journeys and failures. I understand everything I do isn’t going to be perfect, but everything I do is according to my purpose and God’s timing.
What is next for you?
I gave birth to my daughter before finishing college. I thought it would be too late or too hard and unattainable to complete school with a newborn and no financial support. An Achievable Dream stood behind me every step of the way and encouraged me to continue. I appreciate the support, love, assistance, mentorship, resources, and integrity An Achievable Dream has poured into not only me but others in our community as well. I love my AAD!
Now, you will read a reflection from our President and CEO, Dr. Lee Vreeland on Asia’s journey.
It has been a privilege to be a part of Asia’s journey – one that hasn’t always been easy! From the day I met Asia, she has been full of spunk, humor, intelligence, drive, and determination, with the ability to always express her thoughts and opinions (I include this last trait with a smile)! At times, circumstances would temporarily stand in her way, but she ALWAYS pulled herself up with drive and determination, and would achieve her goals regardless of the work and hours that it required. I am so proud of all she has accomplished while having a young daughter. She recently graduated from Norfolk State University and I know this is just the beginning for her! She will continue to achieve great things and be a wonderful role model for her daughter!

Continue reading to learn about why the graduating class sponsor from 2009, the late Norman C. Hardee, and Ms. Linda Hardee, chose to invest in the Dream.
My husband, N.C. Hardee, and I were inspired by Walter Segaloff’s enthusiasm when he first introduced us to the Achievable Dream concept. We recognized the need for such a program in the community and were happy to participate by sponsoring a class and also making an endowment contribution to the organization. Walter and N.C. would be thrilled to see the expansion that has occurred in the past several years and the plans for the future. They would also be especially grateful for everyone who continues to be supportive in keeping the dream alive for the Dreamers.
