Statement from Gordon Gentry and Branch Lawson, AAD Board Chairmen

November 22, 2013

We are proud that Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe has nominated Aubrey Layne to be Virginia’s next Secretary of Transportation.  It’s quite an honor for Aubrey and also a ratification of our decision a year ago to make him our President and CEO.

Obviously losing someone as talented as Aubrey, coupled with the death this summer of our founder Walter Segaloff, creates a void, but at An Achievable Dream, we are fortunate to have an outstanding leader well prepared to step up.  Chief Operating Officer Kathy Edwards has more than a dozen years of experience with our organization.  She completely understands our mission and has the respect of staff and many others associated with An Achievable Dream.  In addition she has been intimately involved in the expansion to Virginia Beach.  Kathy is well known to our benefactors, as well as municipal and civic leaders, and is an excellent communicator and caring executive.

Because of her skill set and experience, the Steering Committee of our boards of directors has voted unanimously to ask Kathy to serve as interim president and CEO of An Achievable Dream beginning in January, and she has accepted. We will have a board meeting shortly after Thanksgiving to ratify this decision and discuss other governance and management changes.  Please join us in congratulating Kathy and thanking Aubrey Layne, who has assured us he intends to remain involved with An Achievable Dream in a board capacity.
