Ahead of Governor’s school closure order, An Achievable Dream delivers 2-week supply of food to 430 families

Ahead of Governor Northam’s order for all Virginia schools to close for a minimum of two weeks due to the Coronavirus outbreak, An Achievable Dream (AAD) staff and volunteers purchased, packed and delivered two-week supply bags of food, school supplies and hygiene items to 430 families. This included families at all five AAD schools (elementary, middle and high schools), as well as families at Newsome Park Elementary School in Newport News, Parkway Elementary School in Virginia Beach, and Fair Oaks Elementary School in Henrico County.

“We know that providing food for this two-week closure could make all the difference for these families who may not have the resources to purchase food during this time,” shares Dr. Lee Vreeland, president & CEO of An Achievable Dream. “When difficult times arise, we come together to help each other and our neighbors. It’s who we are and what we do.”

An Achievable Dream would like to thank the Newport News Police Department officers and Young Adult Police Commissioners, Chris and Stephanie Edinger and David R. Hall Electrical Engineering, and Donna MacMillan-Whitaker and Venture Realty Group for assisting with packing and delivering supply bags.
